Fall Registration 2020 - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

Frequently Asked Questions:
The Bayshore Little League Board of Directors is actively monitoring guidance related to the coronavirus from the City of Tampa, the City of Tampa Parks & Recreation Department, Florida Little League District 6, Little League International, and the CDC. The following frequently asked questions details our on-going response to the COVID-19 situation and will be updated with new information as it becomes available.

  • What will the format be for Fall Ball?
  • As of August 8, 2020, Bayshore Little League is authorized by the City of Tampa Parks & Recreation department to open fall registration for ages 4-12, form teams, approve volunteers and assign coaches, and organize team practices and player development workouts at the city owned fields on Davis Island and Hyde Park (Swann Ave.).  We are not currently authorized to conduct any team vs. team games or scrimmages.  We will continue a regular dialog with the City of Tampa throughout the fall program and regularly work with them as they evaluate the idea of resuming games safely. \The decision to allow games rests solely with the City of Tampa Parks & Rec department.
  • How long is the 2020 Fall Season?
  • Teams will be formed on or about September 7th with practices beginning the week of September 14th. The season will run to about Thanksgiving.

  • What Steps is the League Taking to Ensure the Safety of its Players and Volunteers?
  • Bayshore Little League has an approved COVID-19 Return to Activity Protocol that is available on our website, and has been reviewed and approved by the City of Tampa Parks & Recreation department to be compliant. It includes guidance around the use of shared equipment, sanitization, face coverings and modified practices to adhere to social distancing requirements. All participants in the fall season must review and be familiar with these protocols. In addition training sessions will be held for all volunteers and participants.

  • How will Players be organized in the Fall Season?
  • In order to comply with City of Tampa guidelines, teams of ten (10) players will be established. The Board of Directors (Agents and Commissioners) will organize teams to by league age and skill set taking into consideration coach and friend requests at every level.  The Fall season has always been about development and has never had a player draft.

  • Do you recommend players wearing masks during play?
  • Masks are optional but encouraged. The youth sports program should determine if masks should be worn by players after considering local conditions and checking state, local, territorial, or tribal health and safety laws, rules, and regulations with which youth sports organizations must comply. While playing sports, wearing cloth face coverings may be challenging for players, particularly for younger players and youth with disabilities and underlying medical conditions. Cloth face coverings should be worn by coaches, youth sports staff, officials, parents, and spectators as much as possible. Masks are most important when physical distancing is difficult. Therefore, we encourage social distancing as much as possible. People wearing masks should be reminded to not touch their mask and to wash their hands frequently.
  • Does the CDC have recommendations on how to keep 6 feet between players during practices?
  • CDC does encourage social distancing in youth sports programs, if feasible. For a full list of strategies, refer to CDC’s Considerations for Youth Sports.
